New music is up and online at Primalrecords.com, with this week's first batch of newies including a surefire mix from the always dependable Lawnchair Generals and a surprising new addition to the Global Underground stable. Here's a taste:

THE RHYTHM SLAVES "I Can Feel It" (Original & Lawnchair Generals Mxs) / "Party People" Deepfunk [House] Following up on the success of their Inner City Experience series, Deepfunk presents the latest from the Rhythm Slaves--a wonderful dirty disco-tinged funky houser that stylistically finds itself somewhere between Chicken Lips and Mark Farina. My pick of the week, however, goes to Lawnchair Generals' undeniably tasty and techy remix. It's got the bleeps, it's got the bass, and it's got the key vocal moments from the original. This one will be indispensible to your box.

KING UNIQUE "Sugarhigh" / "King Kong" Junior [Progressive, Tech-house] While Matthew Roberts and his partner Matt "Watkins" Thomas (also known for their massive UBU project) gear up for their first full-length album as King Unique, the London duo bash out another single for the Junior label. "Sugarhigh" is just about the coolest progressive cut I've heard all year, fusing techno and house elements much like early Underworld, but maintaining an uplifting vibe that sounds more like Sasha than Sasha does these days. If the swooshing synth thing isn't your bag, be sure to check out "King Kong"--a stripped-down tech-house jam that is all jack and groove.

V/A (JAMES LAVELLE) "Global Underground: Barcelona" Unmixed 3x12" (feat. Sotero, Layo & Bushwacka!, Force Mass Motion vs. Dylan Rhymes, Meat Katie, DJ Shadow, Doves, and U.N.K.L.E.) Global Underground/Boxed [House, Progressive, Breaks] While the Global Underground message board found themselves debating the current state of progressive house, the honchos over at GU found themselves preparing their first-ever side step from the genre. (Not counting their short-lived romance with hard house pioneer Tony de Vit.) Here, the crew enlists U.N.K.L.E. producer and Mo' Wax principal James Lavelle for an eclectic mix of house, techno, and breaks. On the unmixed vinyl, we get a little bit of all of it: Bosh label-stars Sotero hand in a Tyrant-like housey breaks cut, Layo & Bushwacka! do the funky breaks thing, Force Mass Motion, Dylan Rhymes, and Meat Katie falter in and out of nu-school breaks and progressive, DJ Shadow gives it up in his dubby hip-hop signature, and Lavelle himself gives the final word with an absolutely blissful tech-house remix of UK rock act Doves' "There Goes The Fear"--a track which, in my opinion, warrants the entire album price. Kudos to GU for taking the initiative to move forward with this mix; it's a winner.
