Hope everyone out there enjoyed their Labor Day festivities, because summer is all over nowwhich is good news and bad news. The good news is that most record labels (including our own) will be picking up their release schedules for the fall and more new music should be coming our way shortly. As a result of the holiday, however, expect to see minor delays in our website updates this week, since Labor Day's national holiday status will be throwing off all our delivery schedules by a day or so.
In the meantime, this week's first update is uploaded and online
now at Primalrecords.com, and we're starting this week off with
exclusive new music from the Grayhound camp. Here's the shortlist:
NECTAR "The Other EP" Grayhound (Promo) [House, Tech-house, Breaks] Very few artists in house music get away with the kind of stuff that Adam Tenenbaum excels at. And very few artists have a sound so unique and definitive. On his third record for Garth's much-respected Grayhound imprint, Tenenbaumknown on vinyl as Nectarcontinues his dark and twisted dub experiment with a pair of his most club-friendly tracks to date: Although The Other marks it's territory with an array of dismantled steel drums and other blasted moments of tricknology genius, it is grounded by a funked-up live bass riff that keeps its feet planted firmly on the dancefloor. On the flip, "Say Something" fancies the common thread between dub and electro, yielding a bottom-heavy excursion into drugged-out tech-house that slightly recalls Second Hand Satellites or Floppy Sounds. Rounding things out is "What's Happening," a moody breakbeat track that probably owes a passing nod to the classic "Artificial Intelligence" series on Warp Records. If you've found yourself complaining that it all sounds the same nowadays, don't blame this guy.

TERRY FRANCIS & EVIL EDDIE RICHARDS "Garage Sessions Vol. 1" Lifted Music [House, Tech-house] If you missed it back on white label (which was quite some time ago), the latest offshoot from the Household Recordings camp makes its bow this week with what is, in my opinion, one of the records of the year. UK tech-house pioneers Terry Francis and Evil Eddie Richards team up for the first time ever, handing in a brilliant four-tracker of 21st Century acid house for the heads. "Breakfast at Tone's" is the standout for meboth Terry's funked-up bass heavy rub and Eddie's deeper, atmospheric take will do the business at just about any time of the night. BACK IN ON FULL RELEASE!

DEMARKUS LEWIS "Southern Goods" EP Flat & Round [House, Tech-house] Although Demarkus Lewis has a reputation for being the "deep" contributor to the recent explosion of Texas-based producers, his latest EP for the UK-based Flat & Round label begs to differ. Not that this EP isn't deepthe warm bass tones and analog pads still maintain that feeling. But Southern Goods is first and foremost a dancefloor record: "U Too" will control the club pitched up or slowed down with its airtight rhythm section pounding out a flawless groove and a melodic hook at the same time. But it's "No No No" that's got me saying "Yes Yes Yes!" Much like his contemporaries in the Midas crew, Demarkus finds that the Chicago jack and Detroit b-line combination is simply irresistablewhich is great, because so do we.

DANNY TENAGLIA "Greatest Remixes Vol.1" 2x12" Skyline [House, Tribal] New York City legend Danny Tenaglia has such an extensive volume of quality remix and production work that it would be absolutely impossible to adequately anthologize the man. This two-disc retrospective, however, does a pretty good job: From "Tourism" classics like "Music Is The Answer" and "Elements," to hard-to-find remix work for Grace Jones, Daphne, and Funky Green Dogs, to my personal favorite Tribal America classic "Bottom Heavy," there's something on this collection for Tenaglia collectors and newbies alike. Also included for those who always wanted it: The "Elements" acapella. Excellent.

Thanks again for your continued support. We'll be back later this week. Until then, be good!
