This week's second update is online now at Primalrecords.com,
adding another clutch of quality House, Tech-house, Progressive,
Techno, and Breaks to the Online Shop. And yes, of course, we've
got two new and exclusive pre-release white labels also in this
week from old and new friends alike. Here's the hitlist:
V/A "The Texan-Leeds Connection" (feat. Spettro, Thomas Sahs, and Cosmic Groove Transmission) UST (Promo) [House, Tech-house] What a way to kick off a label. Underground Sound Trybe, better known as UST, hit us off with an exclusive look at the new imprint featuring more of that Midas talent, Spettro and Thomas Sahs, as well as new music from Brique Rouge alumni Cosmic Groove Transmission. Three tracks in all, this EP is packed with flavor: Spettro works up a techy tribal houser fueled by funk and spruced with sax, while Cosmic Groove Transmission move the mix into French house territorypitting the organic horns against an electronic backdrop with freaky French funk. Thomas Sahs, whose "Crunchtime" was the standout track on the last Doubledown sampler, finds time to stand out on this record as well for a jacked-up Chicago-styled houser that is simultaneously deep and devastating. Excellent.
V/A "The Partners In Crime EP" (feat. Envelope, Vision 9, Triple Jack, and Thick As Thieves) Big Popsicle (Promo) [House, Tech-house] Big Popsicle is one of the most flat-out consistent labels you're sleeping on right now. With a series of compilation EPs from some of San Francisco's brightest (and mostly unheard) artists, the Big Popsicle clan is exposing the sheer depth of Bay Area house music. With The Partners In Crime EP, you get four more artists you'll need to meet: From Vision 9's lush and dubby SF house treatment to Triple Jack's funky tech-house with a breaks edge to the return of Envelope. After experiencing success with the Primal/Airtight release of "Be There," Envelope kick back "Come On," a worthy follow-up with a bottom-heavy demeanor and all of the analog warmth of its successor. It's here on promo, and as always, comes first-come, first-serve.

E.O.C. "Chromatix" (Original, Greenskeepers, and Demarkus Lewis Mxs) Grab [House, Tech-house] I know, I know. I should really talk about all the mixes. I should tell you that the Original Mix is a nice organic-flavored funky house cut and that Demarkus Lewis comes through with another one of his trademark jackin' jazz tracks--but hey, when I'm excited about a track, I just wanna let you all know. So check it: Forget about G-Swing and forget about the Greenskeepers' swing house reputation, because not only is their remix of E.O.C.'s "Chromatix" my unchallenged pick of the lot, it's also the furthest thing possible from a swing house tune. Curd and company go straight back to their Chi-town roots for this classic cut-uprockin' the MPC groove, splicing the MC vocal. Expect to see this one in the boxes of everyone from DJ Heather and Miles Maeda to East Coast Boogiemen and Lawnchair Generals.

DR. ECHO feat. NKOSAZANA "Blue Sky" (Original, Heavy Traffic, and DJ Garth & Markie Mark Mxs) Third World [House, Tech-house] File this under the pleasant surprise department: Dr. Echo's original is a dubby leftfield cut for the downtempo set, but it's also a wealth of sampling fodder. The Wicked crew's DJ Garth & Markie Mark take it into more of a traditional dub territory, eschewing the house sound altogether, so the surprise factor comes courtesy of Heavy Traffic: Chunky, techy grooves hold it down while a dose of static acid FX propel the vocal into unquestionable dancefloor bliss. Think Harvey's mix of "20 Minutes Of Disco Glory" meets Floppy Sounds' "Entertainment" and you're close. Absolutely wicked.

THE STREETS "Weak Become Heroes" (Ashley Beedle and Royksopp Rmxs) Locked On [House] You gotta love The Streets. Here, Britain's finest hip-hop export since Slick Rick finds "Weak Become Heroes"his ode to UK acid houseremixed by UK acid legend Ashley Beedle and the generally downtempo Royksopp. Both mixes do the business here: It's a classic vibe, perfect for summer. Beedle's dub sounds like vintage Heller & Farley fare, crossing tougher beats with the original's wonderful piano section, while Royksopp go house with a more textured jaunt that euphorically utilizes the chorus and dubs out the occasional Skinner couplet with excellent results.
Also new this week is remix and production work from Jay Tripwire meets Dub Theory, Brancaccio & Aisher (an stunning remix from Tom Mangan), Brooks, Silicone Soul, Brothers Of Dub, Loes Lee, Kingkade, Tiny Elvis, and more.
New label output from Bedrock, Darkroom Dubs, Jah Love, Minimal, Dirty Blue, Mantis, Sinister, Forged, Nascent, Ritual Sounds, and much more is also in.
And while we're on the Big Popsicle tip, we've also restocked their amazing Gimme Some Sugar EPfans of San Francisco house and breaks will find this
release essential. Trust me.
Thanks again for all and have a great weekend!
