This week's second update is online now at Primalrecords.com, with a slew of important releases in tow and a few exclusive white label releases from our friends at Phrunky Recordings, Xplosion Records, and the up-and-coming Blockhead label from San Diego. Plus we've got the second half of that massive restock we started on Tuesday, featuring essential music from the Seasons, Doubledown, Lowdown, and Siesta vaults. Here are some of the highlights from this week's update:

TY TEK "Talkin' Dirty" EP Phrunky (Promo) [House, Tribal, Tech-house] Picking up right where Casa Del Soul left off, Denver's Phrunky Recordings unveils its second release, here on exclusive pre-release white label. Ty Tek is no stranger to the dancefloor: With releases on Casa, Movim, and Dirty Blue making the rounds over the past couple of years, Ty has made a name for himself with his tough and techy blend of primitive percussive rhythms and forward-thinking sonics. This EP doesn't stray too far from the sound he helped pioneer: "Toy Talk" is a high-paced tribal tech-houser with precision rhythmic sampling and a solid dubby undercurrent, while "Organ-eyezed" takes that dub element and runs with it, underlying a massive subby b-line for guaranteed speaker freaking. Absolutely wicked.

NATURAL RHYTHM "Simple Needs" EP Blockhead (Promo) [House, Tech-house] So
Cal's Natural Rhythm have been pumping out more quality music than just about any other producer this year, and this debut release for the fledgling Blockhead label is no exception. These exclusive promo copies boast four new tracks to add to their canon including the sultry deep Chicago vibe of "Freak FM," a tweaked-out techy cut called "Simple Needs," the jackin' and jazzy "Time For A Party," and "Lovely Day," a tight and punchy vocal house cut that recalls some of their best work for the Seasons label. It's wonder then that this EP has already received confirmed support from the likes of Miguel Migs, Lawnchair Generals, and Spettro, to name a few. These are limited and first-come, first-serve, as always.

SATTVA "Patience" (Original & Astroglyde Mxs) Xplosion (Promo) [Progressive] Their second release for Florida's Xplosion label, Sattva return to the fold with "Patience," a peak-time progressive run that merges into a truly effective breaks section--ethereal and melodic, though stark and sophisticated. On the flip, New York's Astroglyde take the remix into a darker territory, creating a deft hybrid of the current sounds of their city--tribal, breakbeat, techno--without bowing down to any of them. I'm imagining both Danny Howells and Danny Tenaglia rocking ARC with this one.

ROYKSOPP "So Easy" (Derrick Carter's BHQ Rmx) Wall Of Sound [House, Tech-house] Chicago's Prime Minister of Boompty-Boomp takes on Norway's sullen downtempo ambassadors for a truly jackin' tech-house affair. This is Derrick Carter, kids, so you all know the score here: vintage funky drum programming, subtle acid stabs, and Chi-town bass lines for days. It's a limited one-sided disc, so be prepared to buy now or pay later.

GREENSKEEPERS "Mesopotamian" (Original, Lance Desardi, and Mark Farina Mxs)
Classic [House, Tech-house]
Chicago's Greenskeepers take a break from their swing-house revivalism for "Mesopotamian," the latest single from their full-length album. Featuring guest vocals from Mr. Lance Desardi, the original mix is a funky '80s-styled cut with a bit of a punk-funk influence. Desardi's Deep Bleep Dub lives up to its name, giving the original a sunny, California makeover--vocoded vocals, deep-end bass business, and warm pads included. Mark Farina also hands in a mix, going for a deeper, stripped-down vibe that's got the same tech-funk flavor of his recent EP for Music For Freaks.

JASON HODGES "Chrisss... U Dew It" EP Bosh [House, Tech-house] Following an impressive debut for DJ Sneak's Oomph label and an outstanding remix of Kaskade's "It's You, It's Me" for OM, rising talent Jason Hodges makes his long-awaited bow for Mark Bell's Bosh imprint. Why is it so long-awaited? This one has seen chart action and dancefloor airplay from all the major players over the past couple of months and there's little wonder why. Hodges, a Toronto native, has somehow tapped into the art of proper Chicago house, so authentic in fact, that it's already turned the heads of Derrick Carter, Heather, Mark Farina, Kenny Hawkes, and Mazi, as well as the aforementioned DJ Sneak, who along with Hodges, goes under the production guise of the Jizznackas. Upcoming remix work for Music For Freaks and Aroma will cement his position as one to watch; get in on the ground level with this fantastic EP.

DANNY TENAGLIA "Music Is The Answer" (Brother Brown Rmx) White Label [House, Tribal, Progressive] Although it appeared on Desyn Masiello's DJ Mag covermount CD well over a year ago, Brother Brown's memorable remix of this New York house classic is finally seeing the light of day here. If you love the original, there's very little to dislike here: Classy deep house rhythms make the foundation for funky synth-stabbing, prog-tinged FX and dubplay, and Celeda's classic vocal--untouched and in all its original glory. I've been known to still play the original, so it won't be much of a stretch to throw this one in the box for a while. If you don't know it, you're missing out on one of the most uplifting house music tracks ever.

Also in this week is new remix and production work from J. Moonchild, Elite Force, Del 5 (remixed by Asad Rizvi's Impossible Beings and Magik Johnson's Flash Atkins alias), DJ Linus, Adam Freeland, Luomo, Atjazz, John Dahlback, Ben Camp, Blu Mar Ten (remixed by Terry Lee Brown, Jr.), Life Project, The Soft Pink Truth, Infusion, Gordon Edge, Mark Ambrose, Plump DJs, The Committee (Triangle Orchestra & DJ Spun), and much more.

New label output from Whole 9 Yards, Exun, Winding Road, Edge, Finger Lickin', Soundslike, End Recordings, Playhouse, Dessous, Skint, Choo Choo, Baroque, Alola, Super Charged, Distinctive Breaks, and more is also in.

We've also got full release copies of Big Chief's latest from Kut Goldcard and Natural Rhythm's newest for East Coast Boogiemen's Odds & Ends label both finally out on full release. If you missed them on white label last month, here's your chance.

And finally, restocks. Check out our ever-growing restock catalog for essential releases from the likes Johnny Fiasco, Hipp-E, Jay-J, Demarkus Lewis, Kaskade, Cpen, Natural Rhythm, Swirl People, Freaks, and the in-demand Derrick Carter dubs of the 2nd Shift classic "Somethin' Else." It's all up now.

That should do it for now. Have a good weekend and thanks so much for all your support.

Be good!
