This week's second update is online now at Primalrecords.com, and once again, there's new white label business from the fine folks at Detour. This time? The first-ever collaboration between Chicago house guru Mazi and London tech-house favorite Haris. (It's as good as you think.) We've also got full release copies of the new Adam Collins EP on Big Chief and the new S. Kol EP for Bluedaze (featuring remixes from Adam's fellow Omni AM-er Marky Star and New York City tech legend Casey Hogan). And don't forget hot restocks from Chris Lum, JT Donaldson, LHK & Alex Moran, and Random Factor (on Brique Rouge promo with Fred Everything and David Duriez remixes). Here's the hitlist:
MAZI & HARIS "Foreign Policy" (Original, Mazi, and Haris Mxs) Detour (Promo) [House, Tech-house] On their respective continents, Mazi and Haris are two of the most respected DJs in house music. For their first collaboration, "Foreign Policy," the duo offer up an inspired tech-house cut with beefy drums, classy understated acid lines, and a sweat-breaking climax that will clearly translate in big and small rooms alike. On the flip, each of them try their hand at a remix--Mazi goes for a minimal house rub reminiscent of the classic Trax agenda, while Haris goes for a peaking tribal house take--but as good as they come, my pick still goes to the Original Mix for its dirty bass and twisted beats. Wow.

DEVIATE "Ich Gehe Tanzen" (Original & Swirl People Mxs) Aroma [House, Tech-house] The folks at Aroma are at it again after a swift and successful run of releases for house music heavyweights like East Coast Boogiemen and Alexander East. Here, the latest signing by Deviate is remixed by Belgium's extraordinary Swirl People crew and I'm hard-pressed to choose which mix I like best. The original mix is a bass-driven percussive monster that reminds me of those classic Kenny Dope joints--there's a slightly Latin touch, but the groove is augmented with modern effects and late-night keys for a loose and organic feel. Swirl People lift the original bass line in full, but tighten things up for a clearly hot and techy feel, complete with Atari stabs and druggy filter cuts on the keys. So then, folks, your job is easy here: It's not a question of whether or not this record will do the trick, but rather which side will you play?

ANDRE HARRIS "That's My Man / I See Light" Bluem [House] It's the latest release from Halo Varga's Bluem Recordings label, and like their San Diego neighbors at Siesta, Bluem is going for the full-color cover on this one. And what's the record like? For those who don't know, Andre Harris is a Chicago house touchstone. With releases on Cajual and Ideal, Harris has established a reputation for truly soulful and funky house music and this latest 2-tracker (with 5 mixes between them) is perhaps his strongest work to date. "I See Light" is classic Windy City house in the tradition of Glenn Underground, Mark Grant, and the classic Guidance stable, while "That's My Man" showcases a deeper, jazzy house flavor that retains its dancefloor effectiveness in the drums while marking a successful return to roots for Halo and company.

TURNTABLEROCKER "Rings" (Original & Tiefschwarz Mxs) Four [House, Tech-house, Breaks] Germany's Tiefschwarz are getting quite the reputation for going outside the box as their production motif, and "Rings," a remix for Turntablerockers, makes good on their promise. Want to turn heads on the dancefloor? Throw them for a loop with this funky tech-breaks mix that flies somewhere between dub, electro, and the Music For Freaks crew. It's a hot slab of forward thinking dance music that actually works in the club. Lovely.

SILVER HAZE "Hidden Park / Works" Sabotage [House, Tech-house] Even though you're more likely to hear about David Duriez and Phil Weeks whenever the topic of Paris drops, Chris Carrier's role in the development of French house has been just as important--though perhaps not as well-documented. With countless releases for the Taka, Adult Only, and Combustible labels, Carrier (and sometimes partner Guillaume La Tortue) have spent the better part of the last few years deconstructing funky house, groovy techno, and blistering tribal rhythms. On his first release for Cass's new Sabotage imprint, Carrier goes under his Silver Haze moniker for a classy genre-bleeding pair of cuts. "Hidden Park" will find support with everyone from Lee Burridge to H-Foundation for its highly effective techy-tribal-breakbeat hybrid, while "Works" harks back to the classic Adult Only tech-house mode. If you're feeling the Paris vibe right now, you'll need to check this.

THE VISITORS "Future Movement" (Original & Greed Mxs) Tune-Inn [Progressive] You'll most likely first notice this track because of its Greed remix--and with massive club tracks like "Promises" and "Strange World" on their resume gaining classic status, it'd be hard not to. But The Visitors, whoever they are, have totally trumped the remix with the Original Mix on this one. "Future Movement" is a classic deep progressive houser in the vein of Nick Warren or GU: Hong Kong-era Digweed. Atmospheric pads ride the track's duration for an uplifting feel, but this track's anchor is in the compelling bass line that ushers in a proper peak-time vibe without being obvious. Quality.

One last reminder for local folks this weekend: Get Underground! is happening this Saturday night at Club 6, and we've got another special line-up for a quality evening out. This time, it's an exclusive DJ tag team with Phil Weeks and Hector Moralez, best known as Fries & Bridges, alongside Tango label boss Tony Hewitt, and Get Underground!'s own Rebecca Watkins. This one is not to be missed.
Club 6 is located at 60 Sixth Street, between Market and Mission. The party starts at 10PM and goes all night long. Be there.
More music next week, including a new promo from the boys at Grayhound, new promo music from DJ Ali courtesy of Vancouver's Deepen Discs, and much much more. Be good!
