As Norman hits the road again for another tour with his band, we here at Primal have been working round the clock (literally!) to bring you this weeks vinyl offering. Out of 115 new titles, and in addition to the latest release from the Nightshift stable by none other than SF's own Rasoul, tech-house aficionados will find a wealth of releases this week to flavor their sets with. And finally, after many months of talk, owner Barrie Eves has finally implemented a section for Dub and Leftfield which is making its debut on the site this week and is now ready for your perusal. But for now, here are some of the highlights:
SWAT feat. DJ RASOUL "They Keep Coming (Original & Dub Mxs) / Outer Limits" Nightshift Promo [House, Tech-house] Operating under his SWAT guise, Rasoul dishes out three slices of minimal SF tech-funk, and all I can say is damn! In the original mix of "They Keep Coming," eerie effects, disembodied radio transmissions, and granular synths build up the atmosphere, while a swinging beat keeps the focus firmly on the dance floor. On the flip, the dub adds a funky bassline, a pitched down chanting vocal, and added effects that help keep the flow. "Outer Limits" is a slightly more upbeat affair, with spaced-out arpeggios, a subterranean bassline, and sci-fi pad stabs. Definitely one for the heads!

CHRIS LUM "Broken Heart Beat / Broken House" Siesta [House] The insanely prolific Mr. Lum is back again, popping up this time on San Diego's Siesta label. "Broken Heart Beat" is the perfect soundtrack to those end of summer parties, with its warm pads, breathy vocal stabs, and dubbed out effects. This is one that Miguel Migs would be caning at the end of the night to get everybody back on the dancefloor--hot business for sure! On the flip, "Broken House" takes the original formula and gives it the 6AM breakbeat rub to devastating success.

SEVEN A.M. "Slave (Original & 100 Over Club Mxs) Trickpony [House, Tech-house] Quinn Whalley (a.k.a. Different Gear & Kerb Crawler) rolls out a lush, atmospheric house track and seriously twists up the formula by collaborating with vocalist Claire Feist who recounts a sleazy story of seduction. On the flip, Mathew Harvey (ex-Lo-Fi Allstar) and Gordon take the former blueprint and churns out a dirty tech-house mix by toughening up the beat, tweaking out the sounds, and deepening the pads. Seriously rude business!

SPINCYCLE "Drug Games / Freaky Insect (Get Down)" Geek [House, Tech-house] Quickly becoming a store favorite, Spincycle's latest offering on the Geek imprint is a proverbial diamond in the rough. "Freaky Insect (Get Down)" is a deep tech outing with some serious soul, plus strings and a bassline that could've been borrowed out of Mr. Fingers unused playbook. "Drug Games" is a straight-for-the-jugular peak-time chugger that could feasibly decimate city blocks if played on the right PA.

So since we've been slaving away all week at this update, it seems high time to duck over to the pub for a much-needed break. See you next week!
