This week's second update is online now at Primalrecords.com, and as promised, we unveiling a surprise today. Alongside five brand new and exclusive promo titles, Primal Records is happy to announce that today marks the beginning of our annual Summer Sale!
Once again the staff of Primal Records would like to take the time to thank all of you for your contribution toward the humbling success of our Online Shop and Website. And what better way to thank you than to offer another one of our outrageous sales?
If any of you remember our Christmas blowout last year, you'll know what to expect here: Hundreds of quality titles in our House, Tech-house, Progressive, Breaks, and Techno catalogs have been cut by 45-50%! That means import records for $5.99, domestic records for only $3.99, and full-length albums and doublepacks for as low as $7.99!
The industry is generally slow around this time of the year, so what better way to clear out our racks while the new releases slow down than to offer a considerable savings to you? It's our way of saying thank you for your loyalty and continued support. We appreciate this more than you know.
PLEASE NOTE: Many of our sale titles are in extremely limited supply, and as a result, we cannot guarantee the type of fills that you have come to expect from us during this hectic period. All titles available will be first-come, first-serve, and you can bet that we will be trying our best to keep our database as close to real time as possible during the turbulence. We thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.
To view what's on sale, please use the scroll down menu on the left-hand side of our website.
Now, what about new stuff? It doesn't get newer than this. Check it out:
PHIL WEEKS "My Block" EP Minority Music (Promo) [House, Tech-house] Talk about busy: In addition to running the flawless Robsoul Recordings label and recording with Hector Moralez as Fries & Bridges, Phil Weeks is coming hot off the heels of releasing his debut solo album, Yeah, I Like That and having a sweet new baby girl! Apparently that's not enough for this hardworking French house maestro: Here, Weeks offers a stunning 2-tracker for production partner Hector Moralez's new Minority Music imprint and these jams do not disappoint. "Funkin' Around" is a crisp and bouncy dancefloor track that draws the connection between Paris and San Francisco with deft precision, but it's the B-side, "Where I'm From," that's been commanding the most airtime from the Primal crew: Fat and chunky bass tones hold down the funky cut-up drum sequence, all the while drawing blood from a clever Busta sample and a morphed-out visit from Mr. 303. This, my friends, is what we call a floorfiller around these parts.

V/A (BLAKKAT / OLIVIER DESMET & CHUCK DIESEL) Pt. 1 "Job Satisfaction" (David Duriez and Tony Hewitt Rmxs) / "For You" (Chris Lum Rmx); Pt. 2 "Job Satisfaction" (David Duriez Rmx) / "For You" (JT Donaldson Rmx) Tango (Promo) [House, Tech-house] Not just one new release from the Tango crew, but two new remix discs of the recent hits from Blakkat and Olivier Desmet & Chuck Diesel. Disc 1 takes fellow Moultoneer Chris Lum into the studio for a wicked old school acid house run of "for You" that utilizes the vocal from Desmet & Diesel's original with excellent results. On the flip, David Duriez and Tony Hewitt hand in a pair of remixes for Blakkat's "Job Satisfaction," both of which take a deeper, bass heavy approach. For Disc 2, Duriez hands in a full vocal mix of "Job Satisfaction" that perfectly encapsulates the dirty French house vibe of the '90s with a modern feel. He calls it his "Lunar Disco Tha Pitch Mix"; we wouldn't be surprised if he was referencing DJ Pierre's Wild Pitch vibe on this one. Wrapping things up is JT Donaldson's mix of "For You," and for my money, this is the pick: Soulful, techy Chicago house with a slight Detroit vibe and beats tough enough to jack even the most jaded of dancefloors.

KIKO (CHRIS CARRIER) "Overturn / The Break / My Mind"
Detour (Promo) [House, Tech-house] Between Weeks, Duriez, and
now Adult Only principal Chris Carrier, Paris is running things
this week. Making his Detour debut, Carrier takes on his Kiko alias
for a deep and druggy three-tracker of epic proportion. "Overturn"
has that innate tech-house funk, but the etherealism and analog
wave-shifting makes for a house music headtrip that we haven't heard
the likes of since Tom Middleton. "The Break" takes it
back to the dancefloor with a Paris-cum-Chicago vibe that works
perfect with the Detour aesthetic, while "My Mind" wraps
this package up tightly with a percussive dubby houser for fans
of Grayhound or Carrier's Combustible label. Wicked.

BRETT JOHNSON feat. DAVE BARKER "Where Are You Going?" (Freaks and SUMO Rmxs) Seasons [House, Tech-house] Not quite a promo, but not quite in stores yet, we're bringing you another new single from Brett Johnson's fantastic new artist album first. On the remix duties this time around are London's inestimable Freaks crew and Seasons stalwarts SUMO. In both their vocal and dub mixes, Freaks take this one to a place somewhere in between Johnson's quirky bleepness and a light-hearted cut-and-paste sampling style with descending bass riffs not unlike their friends in Greenskeepers. SUMO, on the other hand, go way deep and jazzy for a Spanish-tinged broken beat mix that should satisfy the downtempo crowd as well as the more sophisticated deep house jocks. Another quality remix package for what might possibly be the album of the year.
