Just a quickie this time around to let you know that the week's second update is up and online now at Primalrecords.com. In addition to hot restock material from Galen & Omar (for Sunset Recordings), the Swag camp (with Jay Tripwire and Sounds of the Suburbs) and Dano, Chus & Ceballos (for 20/20 Vision), we've also got exclusive white label material from Fries & Bridges and new house mixes from Tweet. Here's a sneak peek:
FRIES & BRIDGES "Inside Out / It's Your Space Master" Nightshift (Promo) [House, Tech-house] Primal's own Hector Moralez teams up with Robsoul founder Phil Weeks for another collaborative effort as Fries & Bridges, this time for Hipp-E and Tony Hewitt's Nightshift label. As is always the case, the duo conquer the funky tech-house terrain with deep subby bass, twisted FX, and a penchant for groove. "Inside Out" will be the frontrunner for the UK tech-house set, but domestic househeads will no doubt find salvation in "It's Your Space Master"--whose percussive, bass-thumping rhythm section sets new standards for the ilk. (Check the reverse vocal hook that predates Missy Elliot's new single, too!) Wicked.

GRANT DELL & RICHIE LITTLER pres. WHITE RIOT "Disco Hit / Who Are You?" Groove Pleasure [House, Tribal, Tech-house] Tribalation co-producer and all-around nice guy Grant Dell steps in this week with a new collaborative effort called White Riot for the up-and-coming Groove Pleasure label. If you're already a fan, no introduction is necessary. Here, Dell teams up with Richie Littler for an exercise in proper UK house: Rolling basslines and subtle tribal patterns propel "Disco Hit" in much of the same way that Tribalation made a name for itself, while "Who Are You?" gets deeper and dubbier, bringing to mind early Terry Francis and Nathan Coles. Either way, it's another strong argument in the favor of London's burgeoning underground.

H-FOUNDATION "Hear Dis Sound" (Original & Hipp-E and Halo's 2002 Mxs) Siesta [House, Tribal, Tech-house] It's one of those records that we just don't have enough categories to put under. It's House, Tribal, Tech-house, Progressive, Dub, and--perhaps, above all---absolutely amazing. "Hear Dis Sound" was a massive hit for H-Foundation in the late '90s through the Chicago Moody imprint; here, Siesta licenses the original back and offers a 2002 remix whose dark beat and techy vibe, dare I say, surpasses the original. How so? Check the bass line, for starters. There isn't a clubgoer or subwoofer around who will survive that chest-heaving muscle unscathed. Very rarely will I tell you that a record is brutal and wholly essential in the same breath.

SUGAR FIX "Give Me More" (Original & Poxy Mxs) Hussle [Progressive, House, Tribal] I love it when an unknown label and and an unknown artist just kill it. Sugar Fix steps in and does just that with an authentic stab at classic New York tribal house that recalls an era when Murk and Tenaglia were still unaffected by the oncoming UK influence to their music. Australian producer and Thunk Recordings staple Pocket hand in a tougher progressive mix on the flip, but my pick goes to the hard-and-soul original mix. More of this, please!
Also in this week is new remix and production work from 21st Century Fux (Yoshitoshi alumni Martin Accorsi with Luke Chable), Bakers Dozen, Harris Grooves, Octave One, Losoul, Headstate, Swain & Snell, Terry Farley, Kidstuff, Smitty & Eric Davenport, AJ Scent, and Rob Mello.
New label releases in tow come from SAW Recordings, Honchos Music, DIY Discs, Estereo, Advance, Hypnotic, Sound Ritual, Tronicsole, Riviera, Surreal, and Teknology.
And as I mentioned before, be sure to check the Restock section regularly for hot and overlooked titles. This week's Swag, Sunset, and 20/20 Vision restocks are good reasons to check it out now.
Until next week, be good.
