Things are starting to filter their way back in after Miami, and
with that comes this week's secosqwweqqqertyyuuiijjnd update at
Primalrecords.com. Alongside long-awaited new releases from Johnny
Fiasco, Greyarea, Greenskeepers, and more, we've got a couple of
limited restocks you'll want to get your mitts on. But first, this
week's essential pick:
BLAIR "Life" (Derrick Carter & Charles Schilling Rmxs) White Label [House] Back in the era when I lived in Chicago, there was nary a club night out that didn't pump this one out at least once a night--sometimes twice. I mean, God. You name 'em, they played it: Farina, Maeda, Heather, Colette, Dayhota, Lego, Darryl Woodson, Mazi--need I go on? Quite simply, this remix is one of, if not the definitive Derrick Carter remix. And it's back on limited white label only. No crate should leave home with it.
GREENSKEEPERS "The Ziggy Franklen Radio Show" 2x12" Classic [House] Speaking of Chicago house and Derrick Carter, fans of the Classic label and of the new "swing house" movement that seems to have grabbed a tight hold on the Windy City will want to hear this one. James Curd's Greenskeepers are at it again, and this time with a full-length LP. The already massive "Should I Sing Like This?" single makes its way into the package, but Chicago jack devotees will be heading straight for the fantastic "If You Ain't Married Bring Your Girlfriend" or the moving label ode, "Classic Example." Tight.

JOHNNY FIASCO "A Bag, A Drag, and A DJ" EP Middle [House, Tribal, Tech-house] The ever-dependable Johnny Fiasco comes out with a strictly dancefloor EP for the up-and-coming Middle label. Looking for some hot peak-time material? "Tribal Sensation" is just that--a pumping, bass-driven, funky tribal houser that will make the club break a sweat. "Desire," the flipside, is a slightly deeper affair, but pitch it up and expect to see a similar result as that of its counterpart. In my opinion, the hottest Johnny Fiasco record to see my turntables in a long time.
HARIS & STUBBS "My Love" (Original & Kinky Joe Mxs) Swag [Tech-house, House] What a pleasant surprise! Though he's better known for his pumping tech-house output, Laus Records honcho Haris teams up longtime Swagster Paul Stubbs for "My Love"--a deep and funky London tech-house cut that reminds me of classic Garth and Jeno. It's a side of Haris I'm hoping we'll see more often.

V/A "End 050: End Recordings 1995-2002 Unmixed 3x12" (feat. Layo & Bushwacka!, Killer Loop, Mr. G, The Producers, and Mr. C) End Recordings [House, Tech-house, Breaks] It's been seven years since Mr. C launched his End Recordings imprint, but it feels like he's been around forever. To celebrate their 50th release, Mr. C and Layo (sans Bushwacka!) compiled a retrospective mix CD and this is the limited edition unmixed vinyl package. None of the tracks on here are currently available anywhere else, so if you're looking for The Producers' tech-house classic "Flying The Funky Path," Killer Loop's "The Blue Hour," or Layo & Bushwacka's "The Deep South"--arguably the track that kickstarted the current tech-house/breaks movements--then this is your chance. Happy Birthday, End!

HONG KONG TRASH "Down The River" (2003 Rmxs) 3 Beat [Progressive, Tech-house] Last week, Bedrock reissued Fortunato & Montresor's classic tech-prog cut "Imagine"; this week, the folks at 3-Beat resurrect the uber-collectable "Down The River" by Hong Kong Trash. Having also appeared on Digweed's Global Underground: Sydney besides being hammered into a Tenaglia anthem stateside, "Down The River" is a bona fide tribal house classic. Here, you get the fantastic original, as well as your choice of remix. The Alfalfa Experience Mix is where my money's at: Think Tenaglia meets Solomonic Sound. Excellent.

GREYAREA "Yewminist" / "One For The Road" (Gabriel & Dresden's Interstate 5 Rmx) Hope [Progressive, Breaks] Greyarea's come a long way since we offered up exclusive copies of their own Eggplant Music pressing of "One For The Road." The Chicago trio has since become one of the hottest names in progressive house and breaks and "Yewminist," their latest for Hope Recordings, gives good indication why. The melodic and tuneful interact with the twisted and stuttered edits that give Greyarea their distinctive breakbeat aesthetic. Recently featured on Nick Warren's Global Underground: Reykjavik, while versatile enough to be the recent set finale for James Zabiela, this track is only starting to witness its potential.

Also in this week is new remix and production work from Rui Da Silva (the former Underground Sound Of Lisbon producer is back on form), Charlie Brown & That Kid Adam, Tom Mangan, 48 Hours (aka Hess), Luke Fair, 16B, Chicken Lips, Kaskade, Ashley Beedle, Joey Negro, and Tuomas Salmela, amongst others.
New label output from Junior, Bluem, Yoshitoshi, Botchit & Scarper, Bedrock, Funky Chocolate, Plastica Red, Exun, Forcetracks, Low Pressings, Mood Music, and Out Of The Loop, amongst others, is also in.
And on the restock tip, we've got back catalog from Lowdown and Drop Music, as well as--don't blink--limited edition restock material from Seasons, including Derrick Carter and Freaks remixes of 2nd Shift's "Somethin' Else." If you missed them upon release, this may be your last shot.
Finally, local folks need the friendly reminder. This weekend's Get Underground! party is approaching quickly and we're ready for Mazi to rock us senseless. Are you?
Until next week, be good.
