This week's second update is up and online at Primalrecords.com, and this time around we've got over four dozen new entries into our House, Tech-house, Progressive, Techno, and Breaks catalogs. All that and a fresh batch of promo exclusives start this week's shortlist:

JOSHUA COLLINS "Place 2 Place" EP Big Chief (Promo) [House, Tribal, Tech-house] Following up on their latest doublepack release for Cutlab, New York's Big Chief imprint signs up Joshua Collins—a Chicago native whose releases on Grayhound, Hooj, and Mazi's Gourmet label have made him a favorite at Primalrecords.com. An ode to his new digs in Los Angeles, Collins offers "Foster & Broadway" and "Hollywood & Vine," the former of which is a fresh take on the stark-and-dark tech-house vibe and the latter of which finds itself in the deep dancefloor mode that endeared him to the Wicked Crew in the first place. On the remix tip, Cutlab make a quick and welcome return to the fold, taking each track and reinterpreting them for the big room--beefed-up and drugged-out tribal house here. Extremely limited, these exclusive promos are first-come, first-serve.

THE ATWATER SYNDICATE (SEN-SEI, JESSE BROOKS & TODD RESNICK) "Only 4 U" (Original and Justin Drake & George Andrews Mxs) Offset Music (Promo) [House, Tribal, Tech-house] UK up-and-comer Offset Music returns with their latest 12-inch in a string of well-received releases. This time around, the label taps into some San Francisco talent with The Atwater Syndicate—a trio comprised of Jesse Brooks, Todd Resnick, and keys player to the stars, Sen-Sei. (You'll recall the name from his longstanding work with David Coleman, as well as work with H-Foundation and the 6400 Crew, among others). "Only 4 U" is a seductive dubby deep houser with a chunky, techy edge and a seemingly bottomless low-end factor. On the flip, Offset label boss George Andrews teams up with Peace Division's Justin Drake for a tough percussive bender that stays submerged in the deep house aesthetic while maintaining a brash dancefloor attitude. Either tune is a winner depending on your mood. Once again, these are extremely limited. Don't sleep.

WYATT EARP & JONAS TEMPLE feat. STACY BRISCOE "Frequency" (Original and Little Mike & Ty Tek Mxs) Hochokai (Promo) [House, Tech-house, Progressive] PR2 alumnus Wyatt Earp returns with production partner Jonas Temple, a brand new release for his Hochokai label, and some uncharted production territory. This time around, Earp & Temple take a retro route for "Frequency"—a synth-layered vocal track that falls somewhere between Felix The Housecat and Proper Filthy Naughty's recent vocal electro take, "Fascination." Progressive folks will also want to take a look at this one. For the remix, Casa Del Soul staples and Phrunky Records owners Little Mike & Ty Tek bring it back into tech-house mode, fixing a tough jacked-up groove to a rude
descending b-line and throwing in a sparse sampling of the original vocal for good measure.

ROBBIE HARDKISS "Everything Is Changing" Classic [House, Tech-house] Is it just me or is San Francisco the new Chicago? Apparently, Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon are seeing something here because they've enlisted West Coast legend Robbie Hardkiss for the latest release on their Classic label and, wow, this is one the label's best releases yet. (Easier said than done!) "Everything Is Changing" is a definitive SF cut—from the old school drum programming to the infectious acid to the disco-fried vocoded vocal delivery. Think Jeno. The Gathering. Being out of your mind in a SOMA warehouse at 6AM. It's that kind of track. Longtime honorary Bay-Area-by-way-of-Florida producer Q-Burns Abstract Message carries the vibe onto his powerful remix—funky, filthy, freaky. Another essential package from one of the genre's best.

COSMIC GROOVE TRANSMISSION "Cat Attack" (Original, Swag, and Plastic Head Band Mxs) Odori [House, Tech-house, Breaks] It's a good week here at Primalrecords.com. Swag's fantastic Odori label let loose another wild cannon, this time featuring Brique Rouge and Big Chief favorites Cosmic Groove Transmission. Proper stripped-down funky tech-house with a tribal edge, "Cat Attack" is an excellent floor-minded track that adopts the eccentric Odori edge without obscuring the purpose. Similar kudos for one of my favorite new production outfits, The Plastic Head Band, who go for a blasted electro-house feel, as well as label-bods Swag, whose housey breakbeat re-rub sets their signature sound into a deep and atmospheric Detroit vibe. Pure class, as always.

LFO "Freak" EP Warp [Tech-house, Techno, Breaks] Long before Warp Records was known for Aphex Twin, Autechre, and the rest of its difficult listening roster, they were selling over 100,000 copies of LFO's eponymous and classic debut 12-inch. On the trails of his comeback, LFO principal Mark Bell (not
to be confused with the Blakkat Mark Bell) returns with this 12-inch precursor to Sheath, a new LP for the label. Not for the faint of heart, "Freak" is a twisted techno cut with bite for the Richie Hawtin set: Tough and tight, with as much of a nod to early UK acid house as to Nitzer Ebb—“this is going to make you freak" might just be an understatement.
