Primal Records co-owner, Amenti Music label boss, and veteran DJ and producer Olivier Desmet is selling his entire vinyl record collection, and offering it to Primal Records customers exclusively!

Olivier has already sold most of his collection. What is on offer here is his last 2000 records - the best bits of his 20 years of collecting. He did not plan on ever selling these, but he will be moving soon and will not have room for these records, so rather than putting them in storage somewhere, he has decided to offer them to Primal's loyal customers.

The collection will be sold in 20 lots of 100 records each. Quite a great bargain for the vinyl collectors out there!

Great news from Primal HQ, we are excited to welcome Ivan Ruiz to the select ranks of our digital team, the addition of Ivan will not only increase substantially the amount of content we add to the site daily but will broaden the sounds and genres of the music we are offering.

Ivan's relentless devotion to electronic music began at age 11 when he would listen to his uncle and friends DJ in the late 1980's and early 1990's. "I use to watch them spin records for hours and was amazed at how they kept a consistent beat."
In 1993, Ivan stumbled across various "house music" mix tapes from Wicked, Simon, and Mark Farina, which lead him to his calling: House Music!

Ivan began DJ-ing in 1995 and by 1999, he was sharing his brew of deep house across the airwaves of 90.9FM KHDC. This earned him a residency on the premiere electronic underground radio show, "Underground Audio", with Jesse Gonzalez and Roberto Solorio. Underground Audio was the longest running show in the area's history catering underground sounds to the masses. In 2004, Ivan teamed up with friends to launch the infamous monthly "Mint" inside Club Octane. Mint had a run of 2 years of quality parties. Mint featured an array of world class DJ's like Bad Boy Bill, DJ Dan, Doc Martin, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and Rick Preston to mention a few.

In 2005, Ivan moved to San Francisco. While in San Francisco, he became part of the In House Records crew. While there, he also worked as the house music buyer for TRC Distribution in San Francisco. He currently also holds down the Electronica aisle at San Francisco's Amoeba Music helping DJ's from all walks of life to find new soundscapes and styles.

Ivan has worked in record stores since the age of 17 and continues to devote his life to music. In 2006, Ivan created the "Hidden Cove" project to showcase and feature his love for deep/dubby/jazzy/funky downbeat grooves. 'Hidden Cove' has been featured in URB magazine and continues to influence music lovers worldwide. Ivan's passion, talent, and creativity has made him an integral part of San Francisco's underground music community and now we feel he brings that wealth of knowledge to Primal Records as we expand our selection of digital gems to include other genre's and more of the quality house music that Primal is known for.

We hope to have further exciting announcements in the staff department next week.

We have been busy the past ten days and have moved the Primal site to a brand new dedicated server with much greater processor speed and tons of RAM. We have also more than quadrupled our bandwidth to the Internet. You will notice significant improvements in the speed of the web site. Simply put, the site is now blazingly fast!

We will resume adding new content to the site on Monday; we've got a huge backlog of great releases ready to go up for you, so look out for that. Regular updates will resume next week.

So it's official! Primal is now strictly a digital retailer. We closed down the vinyl business today and are ready to concentrate 100% on bringing you the best house music digital cuts. We are relocating our office to a nice space in San Francisco, so updates will be sporadic over the next two weeks, but from mid September forward we will update the site daily with dozens of quality releases.

After fifteen and a half years in the vinyl business, Primal is moving on! Due to a number of factors including the current economy, fuel (and shipping) prices, and the advent of digital downloads, Primal will stop selling vinyl records as of August 25th, 2008. In the past 15 years we have fought the good fight, sold buttloads of great house music, and made a significant contribution to the house music scene in general. But it's time to move on.

We are very excited about the future of Primal's online MP3 shop, and we look forward to serving your musical needs for years to come. Indeed, dropping the vinyl business will allow us to focus 100% of our time and energy into making primalrecords.com your number one destination for buying house music downloads. We have many exciting improvements and loads of quality content coming to the site in the months to come, more on that in a later update.
